Hines Ward is a Perfect Fit with Tim Tebow in Denver
- Updated: March 4, 2012
When Hines Ward was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers this week everyone mentioned his strengths, first on the list is his ability to block downfield. I think that his ability to block downfield along with his sure hands makes him a perfect fit to play with Tim Tebow in Denver.
Tim Tebow has his weaknesses as a passer but, he needs some talent at WR to help him succeed. Decker and Thomas are solid receivers but they lack a veteran leader at the position. Add Hines Ward to that group as leader on and off the field. Ward can play in the slot and catch balls across the middle and he can find soft spots in zones. This will allow Thomas and Decker to stretch the field and give Tebow more options. If you have these options at WR to go along with a solid running game you can set-up play action and give Tebow time to make plays. Tebow will get an entire offseason to practice and take all the first team snaps. Not to mention the fact that Denver had to make up the offense on the fly this season, the coaches have a whole offseason to develop a full playbook.
The knock on Ward is that he’s a few steps slower and can’t run routes in the league anymore. In Denver they only throw it about 10 times a game so he will be able to play to his strength blocking.
Adding his leadership and personality to the Broncos would go a long way in the development of Tim Tebow.
I think the move makes perfect sense.
